Leopard Sharks - Triakis semifasciata
DESCRIPTION
Easily recognized by its striking color pattern of well defined dark bars. Common inshore shark, generally dark brown bars over a tan body. Average size is 59 inches (150 cm) for males and 71 inches (180 cm) for females. The largest recorded was 83 inches (210 cm). Their range is from Oregon coast to the Gulf of California.
A gregarious species which often forms large schools. Opportunistic feeder, feeding on a wide variety of small prey items.
REPRODUCITON:
Development is oviviparous. Females reach maturity at 40 inches (100
cm), males are slightly smaller in size. Gestation lasts approximately
one year. Litters are large, as many as 40 pups.
