Elkhorn Slough Elasmobranch Project
Species List: Brown Smoothhound

• Found in the slough during the spring, but rarely throughout the rest of the year (Talent, 1985)
• Found to feed mainly on small to medium sized crabs, and secondarily on shrimp and small fish (Talent, 1982)
• No seasonal change in length frequency (Talent, 1985)
• Gravid females contain between 1-8 embryos, however, no full-term embryos were found (Talent, 1985)
• Brown smoothhounds are not very common to the Elkhorn Slough
